Motivated by a love of national parks and the desire to introduce their sons to new places, Betty and Don had managed to visit 49 of the 50 United States over the course of their marriage. So as they approached their 50th wedding anniversary last year, they knew that they needed to book a celebratory trip to the one state that remained on their bucket list: Hawaii.

“We visited Alaska for our 40th anniversary, which was incredible,” Betty said. “Then when our 50th came around we knew we had to go to Hawaii. We had wanted to see it for a long, long time.”

On the recommendation of friends, Betty and Don connected with agent Tonia Long at AAA Boise, who suggested Luxury Gold’s “Luxurious Hawaiian Escape” itinerary. Tonia had traveled on the trip just six months earlier and had been very impressed. She correctly predicted it would be perfect for Betty and Don’s milestone anniversary.

Diamond Head, Oahu.

“We loved everything about the trip,” gushed Betty. “Everything was taken care of, the experiences were incredible, and there was no one in the group that we didn’t enjoy being with. If we had tried to arrange such a trip by ourselves we wouldn’t have seen half the things we saw, or made the friends that we made.”

Betty and Don’s favorite “wow” moments came during the helicopter tour of the Big Island, which was also their favorite destination. “We flew right over Kilauea and saw the lava bubbling in the crater!” Betty said. “We also loved seeing the breathtaking waterfalls. No one can make you understand how gorgeous Hawaii is – you have to see it for yourself.”

They also appreciated the amazing fresh fruit at every breakfast, the beautiful beach at the Grand Wailea hotel, and being able to meet a local resident at the Kona Coffee Living History Farm. “It was fascinating to hear the stories told by the lady who grew up on the farm,” Betty said. “This was one of our favorite excursions.”

Betty and Don had nothing but praise for their amazing Traveling Concierge, Julie, who went out of her way to acknowledge the special nature of their trip.

Sunset, Mauna Kea, Beach Hotel, Hawaii.

“Julie really took care of us because she knew it was our 50th anniversary,” said Betty. “There was always Champagne waiting for us when we arrived at a new hotel, and when she could see that we were nervous about getting to the airport at the end of the trip, she went above and beyond to get us there on time and without a hitch!”

Because they loved their experience so much, Betty and Don are definitely interested in doing another trip with Luxury Gold. “We would love to take the Canadian Rockies trip,” Betty said.
